Monday 29 August. Millport to Troon. 15 nm and home.

Today’s the day we head home. Only 3 hours and our 4 and a half month journey will be at it’s end. The day dawns bright. A little wind, puffy clouds and pale blue late summer skies. The wind was kind enough to enable us to sail albeit slowly, most of the way home. Never getting above 8 knots but nevertheless enough to push us in the right direction. We played favourite music through the foghorn system using the radio, and enjoyed the euphoria of the moment . Actually it all felt a bit strange. The wind eventually died and we had to motor sail the last bit. The sea was very calm. We saw harbour porpoises, doing their wheely thing, and enjoyed all the guillemots, gannets and other seabirds that we’re going to miss so much in days to come. We took the main down and prepared the lines and fenders for the last time. J radioed in to Troon to ask if it would be okay to go into the fuel berth. We have to leave the tank full of diesel for overwintering. Fortunately the calm weather meant easy arrival and we could see Sarah from the marina staff, coming down the pontoon to meet us. Then we noticed Paul too, on his way to greet us. They were so welcoming and we were overwhelmed with how wonderful it was to be back. Once we’d filled up with fuel, we made our way to our favourite berth F 14. Craig was there to meet us, welcome us and help with the final landing. We are so grateful to all Our friends at Troon yacht haven, you have made coming home so special. Thank you ! The first thing to do after the immediate jobs, was to celebrate our safe return. 🥂🥂. ! It’s difficult to put into words our feelings, so I am probably not going to try too hard.

Our world has been an 11 m sailing boat for the last 4.5 months. She has carried us through rough seas and past high cliffs, through muddy rivers and over shallow sandbanks, she’s had her anchor stuck in boulders and her rudder attached to lobster pots.

She has risen to every challenge and responded to every request.

She has been our constant friend and companion, who has kept us safe through everything. It is impossible to say enough thank yous to our wonderful sailing boat …”Angelique “.
