Sunday 7 August. Arklow to Dun Laoghaire. 30 nm

We left Arklow at about 1100. We’d met a nice Norwegian couple here, who were moored behind us, and also an Irish boat who we’d lent an extension cable to. we’d established that there are no lines between the fore and aft moorings in the river. This meant we could swing out forwards and between bouys, just had to be a bit careful not to go too far across the river as it shoals ( gets shallower) quite quickly. It actually went down to 2.5 metres. The weather could not have been better. We hoisted the main and unfurled the headsail. The wind hadn’t been forecast to be in the SE, but it was. A gentle 10 knot breeze. It was the perfect sailing conditions, the tide with us, the wind on the quarter , and flat sea. Angelique’s favourite. When the wind dropped a bit we put the cruising chute up and had a glorious ride up the lovely coastline towards Dublin. Dun Laoghaire ( pronounced Dun Leary) or Dun Logga .. as our Freind Falkert called it, sits in the southern part of the big Dublin bay. With massive breakwater arms as if to welcome you, each with huge port and starboard lighthouses built in the 1800s. Since extra help was on hand, I had my scheduled Sunday evening friends chat whilst coming into the Marina. They had given us a berth….NE25 … and all went well. The marina here is vast and not full at all, making it better for manoeuvring. There are a lot of facilities here. And the town is just a few minutes walk away. They have an interesting and novel way of getting in and out of the gate….. finger print recognition which you register at the marina office. The other brilliant thing is they have a facilities barge at the far end of the main pontoon in addition to the main office ones, which is much nearer our berth and saves a long walk from where we are! No bins but showers etc. We had a good supper on board. Looking forward to exploring tomorrow 😊.

What I learned today…. I know it’s taken Me a long time, but just about cracked the rigging of the chute!

  1. I am really enjoying reading your diary Sue such an adventure and something to reflect back on in years to come. You are also looking wonderful with your golden tan. Wish I was on the boat with you rather than helping Harvey with the hedge cutting! I’m really looking forward to our sailing holiday on October – you had whetted my appetite. Keep sailing. X

    1. Thanks ! We’ve been so lucky with the sunshine recently! Winds a bit light but we’ve still not done much motoring. Can’t believe we’re on the home straight! From the foredeck! X
