In the middle of the night, the wind we knew was forecast, arrived with a vengeance. This morning dawned wet and windy. Even though we were expecting it, it is a little disappointing! Glad that we’d made the sensible decision to put the motor on the dinghy whilst the water was still flat! After a bit of a lie in and a read, J cooked bacon and egg for breakfast. Outside really didn’t look very appealing especially as we’re a long way from the shore. However, we braced ourselves and got all kitted up in waterproofs for a trip to the little village. We wanted to pay our dues, have a little look around, and have showers. Our original plan of going for a hike was abandoned ! We bounced our way over to the pontoon and tied up. We paid our mooring fee at the little cafe which appeared to double up as the marina office. We had a coffee and then wandered through Arisaig past a hotel, a spar and a visitor centre which was a little museum housed in the old smithy. It had a lot of interesting old blacksmiths tools along with lots of stuff about yesteryear in Arisaig and crofting life. Life certainly was tough.once back at the cafe/ office, we borrowed the key for the shower …. our other goal of the day. Bit odd however as the coin operated box was outside in the public corridor . It gave you 2 minutes before the water came out but that’s not long when you had as many layers of clothes on as we did! Mission accomplished, we returned to Angelique in the pouring rain and 25 knots of wind. The rest of the day will be spent cosied up inside reading… plus going in and out to keep putting the gaz on and off, every time you want a cup of tea! What a pain!
What I learned today….. the best place to be on a day like today is in bed with a hat on…
