Thursday April 21 Troon to Sanda island 35 nm

9 o’clock on the dot , west coast marine pitched up as promised to serviced the engine . Our plan to set off as soon as it’s done. The sun is shining and there’s a bit of a breeze getting up. My butterflies are starting as always , before setting of on a big trip… and this is the biggest of a lifetime, for me anyway. After saying farewell to the marina staff and taking a few pictures, we started the newly serviced engine and were off. The wind direction and strength were perfect! 20 knots behind us but in a slight ( not too rough) sea meant we could sail all the way on the head sail. Not having the main up is so much less stressful when sailing downwind as you don’t have to worry about the boom and gybing and all that palaver. Plus you go almost as fast anyway . the sun was shining and the wind was constant. We played 20 questions and all took hourly turns on the helm. Alice was very excited to see puffins but we’re still waiting for the dolphins! We left at midday and arrived at the “ rather lumpy” anchorage at about 1830. On our way we passed Ailsa Craig, an island never to be forgotten “ landmark of our lovely friend and house sitter Robbie. ( But that’s another story!)

Once across the turbulent water at the entrance we managed to anchor in relative flat water! Lovely.. relax ….Then we had to do it again as we’d gone in to far😐. Once again, Bobs charts prove their worth! Packet pasta and broccoli for supper and now lying in a Rocky roly cabin awaiting a 430 departure 😱

What I learned today… I love wild anchorages, when you’re at one with the elements. Even nicer if the elements would just calm down a bit!
