Saturday 23 April Craighouse to Gallanach bay, Crinan 30 nm

A wonderful day! A hugely appreciated excellent nights sleep, waking up to cloudless blue sky and bright sunshine. A chilly wind still blows but it feels good and unthreatening. We set sail after de-weeding the anchor at about 1030 after a bit of a lie in 😬 and some breakfast. The wind is still NE so as we’re headed north, it’s a tacking day. However it proved to be the port tack across the sound of Jura and then starboard tack in absolutely the right direction up the coast. Not often that happens! We had 10-15 knots with perfect weather all the way to Crinan. Blissful. Still cold but bright and beautiful. One thing that struck us is that all the mountainous terrain around us looks very brown and arid….. like Greece or Croatia( unlike normal colour) . I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s because the bracken hasn’t started to grow yet? But of course it could be global warming! Ideas and thoughts welcome! Ham and cheese sandwiches on the way, we reached our destination anchorage about 4 pm. Beautifully sheltered in a NE wind we proceeded to enjoy the peace and quiet of the evening in hot sunshine . Julian sat reading his book of cheerfulness and Alice became reacquainted with her phone having been out of signal for days 😱. Pasties and salad for supper and we made a batch of flapjack to make use of the oven.

What I learned today…. it’s a good idea not to tie the boat hook down so it can be got at quickly and NOT to kick the engine ignition key when trying to do a host of other things 😐

  1. Hi

Fewer clouds there than Madeira! Think you must be right about the bracken.

“The World” has just sailed past where we’re staying. It’s a residents only cruise ship of privately owned apartments for the very rich. Worth looking up online if you ever have nothing better to do!
