Thursday 2 July Port Appin to Port Ramsey 2 nm

Perfectly calm sunny morning . Peaceful except the busy little ferry which goes to and fro every hour. It reminds me of a children’s story character…. every time it came and left causing a lot of wash making Angelique rock and roll. We let go our mooring and headed round the top of lismore to Port Ramsey. Not really a “port” just a lovely bay but sheltered and shallow so presumably in days gone by, a fishing community. We had tried to hire bikes but they were fully booked so we decided to go for a walk instead. We anchored a fair way out as it’s shallow and you can’t go too far in. This meant rather a long row against the wind. It didn’t seem worth taking the motor as we might have to lug it a long way back as the tide was going out . Eventually we landed and set off on our walk across the island to where the busy little ferry comes in. The pictures should show what a beautiful place it is . We only wish we could have seen more of it. Definitely bikes next time! There were loads of people out on them and virtually no cars. We saw some ancient looking kilns of some sort? If anyone has any idea of what they were used for I’d be really interested. The wild flowers were amazing… Some were obvious like buttercups and lots of wild fuscia hedges. I’ll have to do some research on others! We got back to the boat and fortunately the wind hadn’t changed direction so we were blown back to the boat quickly, grabbing a fender as we approached so not to be blown any further! We had an early supper of salmon, salad and potatoes as we’re getting up at 530 tomorrow ☹️

What I learned today….. a lovely poem about being an optimist

  1. It makes wish I’d been keener on my sailing instead of golf when I was younger. It all looks so beautiful and I do like the poem.
