Thursday 20 August Oban

How lovely to have a lie in! And the suns shining despite the forecast. Given that I’d booked an early meal a nice brunch was in order. Decided a good plan would be to go in search of a bakery for croissants or something similar. Given that I’d investigated the Harbour facilities the evening before (at J’s recommendation), I thought I’d go and use them on my way. Unfortunately the Loos were both full…..2 loos and 4 showers seems a bit of an odd ratio…..🙄, however there was a large disabled toilet where a chap was cleaning his teeth. He finished that and came out so I thought I’d use that one. The instructions on door closure were complicated but I stepped inside and pressed the red arrows. Nothing happened, except at that precise moment one of the other Loos were vacated so I thought I’d use that one instead. I stepped out and the automatic door closed behind me. Oops! Hoping it would have sorted itself by the time I came out…… it hadn’t. I did consider just walking out but my conscious got the better of me and I had to go and explain my inability to understand their toilet instructions to the harbour master! How embarrassing! I also failed miserably to find any bakeries let alone any croissants anywhere. Plenty of bacon rolls to be had In cafes, but I just wanted a croissant ☹️. Cafe culture obviously different up here. So returned home empty handed . Cooked breakfast anyway. My next job was to do the laundry. Had accumulated two bags over the last two weeks including the bed linen……so was hoping To be able to do some washing! Meanwhile J was off to the chandler to find some Tool to fix our port side navigation light which had come loose. The “mandarin laundry “ was brilliant….. once I’d found it! I wandered about like a bag lady, unable to visualise my phone with the directions even though it was only “2 minutes away “. Because I had a heavy bag of laundry in each hand and the sun was shining on the screen so I couldn’t see where I was going!!! Aaaah!!!! Got there in the end and they couldn’t have been more helpful. I just handed over my bags and left them to it! Result!! Julian had meanwhile bought a pop riveting tool and fixed our port bow light 😬. which was good news! J also did another Tesco shop whilst away so now we have everything we need for another week all being well! The laundry phoned to say all ready and after collecting that I had a wonderful shower which was the best so far…..didn’t have to feed it with pound coins, or keep pressing it to deliver like warm water for 30 seconds…….as hot as you wanted… and in the right direction ! Amazing ! Once all the chores were done it was more or less time for our meal out at EE USK ( fish restaurant)

A lovely meal followed by a comfy normal evening watching telly. The wind is still strong but it’s safe and secure in here!! 🤞

What I have learned today……….look up EXACTLY where you’re going before setting off with luggage in both hands.
