Sunday 2 August

Rest day! Woke up after a really peaceful night. Even some sunshine peaking through my curtains. Always such a nice feeling to not have to get up! Scrambled egg for breakfast after which we went exploring. Two hotels in the village have opened…. just yesterday. There was the Hebridean toffee shop which was open as it’s a cafe as well, but apart from that not much. We walked right round the bay and onto a point looking back out to see where we had come in. Good view of the beautiful white sandy beaches famous in this area. Tried to get a Sunday paper from the coop but apparently THEY come in by plane and would be at the Petrol station. I went to “Barra island stores” in search of sandpaper, whilst J went off to find the Sunday times, but no luck and he returned empty handed. ( I did not!) Never mind, he was at least able to watch the British Grand Prix . LH won in spite of getting a puncture on the last lap. Spent a bit of time cleaning the boat since the weather bright and dry for a change. Ate on board up in the “ tent room” – (the awning that covers the cockpit )as for a change it was warm enough , and the views were beautiful in the evening sun. I think there might even be a sunset!

What I have learned today……….kisimul castle ( meaning island castle) is the castle in the middle of the bay. It’s dates back to the mid 16 th century and was the stronghold of the clan McNeil. Various attempts over the years have been made, but in 2001 the castle was leased by the chief of the clan McNeil to “historic Scotland “ for a 1000 years for the annual sun of £1 and a bottle of whisky.

Do you want to add anything to this Robbie?
