Sun shining again! Getting used to this now! We got up early in order to get to Waitrose for 8 am in order that we could leave at 0920. Sue and I walked up the interesting zig zag flights of steps up which had obviously been built up the original cliff face. The amazing (Continue reading “Monday 20 June. Sunday 19 June. The Roach to Ramsgate 60 nm
We left the “ uninviting anchorage “ just after dawn. Bleak, grey and isolated are good descriptive words. The next few hours we spent picking our way across the sandbanks of the Thames estuary. Julian and Tim has spent a long time working out all the tidal considerations for the various routes we had toContinue reading “Sunday 19 June. The Roach to Ramsgate 60 nm”
Saturday 18 June. Burnham yacht harbour to the River Roach. 6 nm
Tim arrived back in the morning as his son Joe had kindly driven him . We had croissants and coffee before he headed off. Tim , Sue and I, walked into The little town of Burham on Crouch. Friday 17 June. Pyefleet creek to Burnham on crouch. 26nm
We awoke at 0530 and as the tide had already dropped to 4 m, we decided to go whilst we still could. So we went about 500 m and re anchored in slightly deeper water. We had to wait a while there , otherwise the tide wouldn’t have been in the right direction for later.Continue reading “Friday 17 June. Pyefleet creek to Burnham on crouch. 26nm”
Thursday 16 June. Wrabness to Pyefleet creek ( Brightlingsea ) 22 nm
Another early start but a beautiful peaceful sunny morning up a river. So very different. We mooched our way down towards Harwich under motor and saw a great big stenaline ferry being loaded with container lorry’s . In the same dock was another stena line ferry much more obviously for passengers and cars. Off toContinue reading “Thursday 16 June. Wrabness to Pyefleet creek ( Brightlingsea ) 22 nm”
Wednesday 15 June. Woolverstone to Wrabness 18 nm
The morning was again sunny with blue skies. We left the marina and pottered further on up the Orwell , just to have a look. We motor sailed upstream, under the dramatic Orwell Bridge with all its concrete. You can see if you look up, that it was built in two halves…. longitudinal halves, andContinue reading “Wednesday 15 June. Woolverstone to Wrabness 18 nm”
Tuesday 14 June . Woolverstone.
IToday, waking up to sunshine and a cloudless blue sky, it does finally feel like we’re on holiday! The atmosphere is dry and warm. There is no condensation running down the walls and I haven’t had to wipe the windows dry ( on the inside) for days. First job after breakfast was laundry… so excitingContinue reading “Tuesday 14 June . Woolverstone.”
Monday 13 June. Lowestoft to Woolverstone 40 nm
Another 0330 wake up☹️. But the sky is light and looks as if it’s going to be a sunny day! It was , in fact cloudless. We radioed the port to ask for permission to leave ( getting more familiar with this) and off we went. The water was flat because the wind has westContinue reading “Monday 13 June. Lowestoft to Woolverstone 40 nm”
Sunday 12 June. Lowestoft.
Today was a rest day. We had a late brunch…. bacon and egg and all the trimmings courtesy of Julian. I went in search of a Sunday paper and had to go further than I thought. Around the harbour seems a little disheveled. Eventually I asked a lady who was busy pressure washing tables outsideContinue reading “Sunday 12 June. Lowestoft.”
Friday/ Saturday 10 – 11 June. Whitby to Lowestoft. 150 nm
A long way! This is the longest bit of the trip. We had abandoned the idea of going to Grimsby due to various tidal constraints and timings. Proved to be the right decision. Friday morning dawned sunny. With a breeze blowing from the SW. perfect! And it did for once turn out to be aContinue reading “Friday/ Saturday 10 – 11 June. Whitby to Lowestoft. 150 nm”
