Today thinking of mum. Would have been her 95 th birthday. She and dad loved this part of the world and spent many happy holidays here in the west coast of Scotland … including the ones we had as children in various damp cottages! The wind was still funnelling down the valley creating quite strongContinue reading “Friday 16 July. Isle of Rum”

Thursday 15 July Tiree to Loch Scresort , Isle of Rum 46 nm
A long day! Up at 0630 we needed to be away and at the entrance to Gunna sound by about 8 . Our plan had been to go through the sound and then back just to see it …. as we’d been told it was beautiful. We changed plan and decided to head out andContinue reading “Thursday 15 July Tiree to Loch Scresort , Isle of Rum 46 nm”
Wednesday 14 July. Tiree
Stayed put today as we wanted to do a bit of exploration . It was a pretty miserable early morning and there was obviously a weather front going over from the west. Looked bleak. A bit disappointed as the rest of the uk is experiencing a heatwave and cloudless blue skies it seems. Anyway itContinue reading “Wednesday 14 July. Tiree”
Tuesday 13 July. Ulva ferry pontoons to Gott bay, Tiree 28 nm
We got up at 6 as needed to be away 0730 in order to get the tides right, going north through Ulva sound. We needed to be going through on a rising tide since it’s a very shallow passage and lots of rocks! Also though in addition to needing enough water, it also wants toContinue reading “Tuesday 13 July. Thursday 8 July Ardlanish to Tinkers hole 10 nm
We left Ardlanish in order to get to tinkers hole mid morning. Not particularly cos of the tides but since it’s a popular anchorage we wanted to get there before the crowds. It’s quite small and the swinging rooms not great. We motored the entire journey of 10 nm . Stony islands littered the landscape….Continue reading “Thursday 8 July Ardlanish to Tinkers hole 10 nm”
Monday 12 July in Ulva Ferry
Today was a non sailing day. It was beautiful weather again and we decided to explore Ulva. The little ferry goes from the slipway just near the pontoons . It’s an on demand service that runs from 9 to 5 as many times as it’s needed to cross the 200 m from Mainland Mull toContinue reading “Monday 12 July in Ulva Ferry”
Sunday 11 July. Cragaig bay to Ulva Ferry Pontoons . A few nm
Directly speaking, it wasn’t very far but we did a bit of exploration on the way. We were going to go onshore for a walk but weather had got up and there was a wind in the wrong direction to leave the boat. So waited around a bit before setting off for a sail roundContinue reading “Sunday 11 July. Cragaig bay to Ulva Ferry Pontoons . A few nm”
Saturday 10 July. Bull hole to cragaig via tresnish islands…. Lunga 19 nm
An early start but I stayed in bed whilst J motored out to sea. He hadn’t been able to sleep so felt we may as well get going. Plan was to visit Lunga .. the puffin island , on our way to Loch Na Keal. All I can say is that it was one ofContinue reading “Saturday 10 July. Bull hole to cragaig via tresnish islands…. Friday 9 July. Tinkers hole to Bull hole 5 nm
We needed stores and water to replenish, so had decided to go anchor at bull hole which is an anchorage near Fionport . Fionport is the little village where the ferry goes from the mainland of Mull, to Iona. Iona is a really interesting place but we have been before. Having been basically out ofContinue reading “Friday 9 July. Tinkers hole to Bull hole 5 nm”
Wednesday 7 July Loch Spelve to Ardlanish 30 nm
Not a quiet night for various reasons. Swinging round our anchor like anything due to variable wind direction. The picture on the plotter looked like an untidy ball of wool! Left our anchorage and put the mainsail up with one reef in 🙄… and set off round the south coast if Mull. The sun cameContinue reading “Wednesday 7 July Loch Spelve to Ardlanish 30 nm”
