Now at home, I have a moment to reflect on the last few months. I sat down with a pen and paper to write something but somehow words failed me, so I’ve reverted to the little screen of my iPhone which feels right. What I want to say most of all is a huge thank you to everyone who has read any of my ramblings. Thank you for all the support, encouragement and at times sympathy! I have written about what we’ve seen and experienced and how we’ve felt. It has been a commitment which I’ve loved doing, and I feel privileged that we’ve been able to share in some way the pleasure, ( and the pain!), that we have had first hand, on our journey round Britain. There are too many memories to pick out favourites, but we both without hesitation will say that it has been the kindness of the people with whom we have shared our time with, that has made the biggest and most lasting impression. With all the doom and gloom in the news that we have come back to, it is easy to forget what an amazing island we all inhabit …. together. Historically, it seems that two of the most influential “things” that we have come across, shaping our coastal communities, in ancient and more recent times, are Vikings and herrings…… although I am sure that is a very over simplified view.
What have I learned? So many things. About sailing, about myself and a lot of random things about our spectacular island and the seas that surround it.
It has been a pleasure to have you aboard, and I will miss writing this. So, thank you again, till the next time……..
