Friday 26 August . Cambletown to Lochranza . Arran. 26 nm

A bit of a cloudy start. The “tea on the quay “ cafe was doing a roaring trade and Cambletown is making a big effort in its floral displays. Julian disappeared to try and find gaz, whilst Alice and I went to the coop. Sadly Julian has no luck, so we’re just hoping our gaz lasts out for another couple of days😳. Tricky situation. A lot of sailors are changing to calor gas as a result….. which does seem to be more available. It means completely changing the configuration of the gas locker on Angelique though, so we’ll have to think about that. We left the marina and headed out, not thinking we’d be able to sail, however once our into Kilbrannan Sound the wind picked up to a good 9-10 knots and we had a great sail on lovely FLAT deep Clyde water! All the way until the visibility closed in and we had to use the radar for the first time this journey. Grey, damp and foggy…..Despite all that, it is wonderful to be back in home territory. Mixed emotions about the next 48 hours😌. Drifting northwards we decided that Lochranza was our best destination. The skies cleared and the wind dropped. Our favourite colours are back….. bright green bracken, below purple heather and blue blue sky. White houses dotting the shoreline and goosebumps on my neck. There really is nothing like the west coast of Scotland. Eventually turning into the Lochranza estuary….. following in the first Caledonian macbrayne ferry we’ve seen for 4.5 months! We tucked ourselves far into the bay and picked up a lovely blue Scottish mooring, with a proper easy to use thick rope strop. The pick up buoy had been replaced by a fizzy water bottle but who cares. Easy peasy compared to the rest of the coast!!! Nearly all the moorings were full, which gives a good feeling. The wind was actually in the wrong direction but very light….. and safety in numbers…. couldn’t all be wrong. We were rewarded with a stunning sunset in a spectacular setting. Of all the places we’ve been, I don’t think you could better this location. The ruined castle at the head of the Loch, flanked on both sides by quaint white cottages, below green and purple mountains, with blue skies above. Just mesmerising. I cooked goats cheese/ asparagus tart for supper and we watched the sunset 🌅……….💗🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

What I learned today….. refreshed the memory about navigating via the radar screen in thick fog☹️!
