Wednesday 24 August. Bangor to Ballyhome bay. 3 nm

The weather has really cheered up.! It’s now a lovely temperature with blue sky and fluffy white clouds. Some breeze just fluttering all the flags on the boats . We have four courtesy flags up, but I am sad I didn’t get one from Scilly to complete the set. ☹️Bangor is a large marina with all the facilities you’d expect. They were very accommodating and friendly. We had a fairly lazy morning . Bit of reading and writing and showering. The gaz search went on to no avail. They normally have it at the marina but apparently the earliest delivery will be Friday 😳. Strange though, something in the camping gaz refill system is not working as the marina had a cage full of empty canisters ….. about 30! So why are they not sending them back to be refilled 🤔 ???? We set off for a bit Of an explore of Bangor. One obvious feature, was the huge murals painted on walls and gable ends. All sorts of things! Beautifully done and colourful…… cheering up some rather drab bits of the town. Knowing we had to visit ASDA on the way back we walked out towards the train and bus station, along a busy bustling Main Street. There was a Green Park at the end which looked like it had a nice old house on it. Called the castle but actually the town hall. Nevertheless a stunning building which we found out also accommodated the museum…. which was free and very interesting. Particularly liked the funny 50 /60 s film footage of Bangor back then. We had scones and jam in the courtyard cafe which was delightful. So strange..These moments are so far removed from crashing through wind and waves just 48 hours ago! On the way back we just got a few items from Asda, and made our way back to the boat via a tea towel shop. ( I have bought a tea towel on each coast). We had decided that as we needed fuel anyway, and therefore had to leave our berth, we’d go and anchor in a nearby bay overnight. It also means we get a quick getaway in the morning as the likelihood is we’ll be setting off back to Scotland tomorrow. I zoomed with my friends and anchored in Ballyhome bay…… overlooking Bangor yacht club and the familiar Victorian terraces of seaside houses. We were in the company of just one other yacht. It was a beautiful evening. I cooked smoked salmon pasta and we watched TV.

What I learned today…..Bangor Castle isn’t really a castle. But it’s a very lovely building 🤗
