A much brighter day today. Still windy from the south, but pleasant in the breezy sunshine. First thing we did was to go to the little Manx kipper Smokery at the top end of the harbour. It looks as though it been there for decades……. apart from the red double decker bus which has somehow been shoe horned into the yard. It’s acting as a pop up cafe With the top deck set out with bar stools etc and produces famous Manx kipper baps…. thankfully bacon ones too! A really delicious breakfast! Once it was 11am we made our way to Peel castle. Once again we were impressed by the heritage site and how it had been done. They had audio machines which told you a bit about each of the 39 places in the castle. But not too much detail! My favourite was the napoleonic “barbettes “ that used old canons stuck upside down in the ground. After the Castle we made our way to the now familiar bus stop and off we went to Douglas. This time we changed at the sea terminal to get a local bus to Onchan to see if we could find the King edward golf course. Whilst waiting for the bus, we watched as many tourists took photos and selfies of a statue of three men in flares?!?! I guessed who they were but no idea why they were here. After our golf course reccy, we retraced our steps on the bus and went and perused the shops for a bit. First time we’d been inside a marks and Spencer’s for 5 months! Then it was time for bus home, beer at the Creek and evening of chilli and TV🤗.
What I learned today……….
The padding defences , the grandstands and rows of plastic chairs and other seats are appearing in greater numbers each day now….. as the Grand prix start approaches. oh and Yes ! The bee gees were born in the 🇮🇲 Isle of Man.
