Monday 1 August. St Marys to New Grimsby. 10 nm

Sue and Tim arrived on the Scillonian at midday. great to see them as ever. It had been a relatively less roly night for us but we were still looking forward to escaping the perpetual motion of the Scilly swell, which seems to creep in everywhere here. After homemade scones, jam and cream, We decided to make our way to New Grimsby as It would make make leaving tomorrow for Ireland easier . The weather was a bit murky but we had the headsail out and had a good sail round. We didn’t go across the flats as the tides were wrong, but were relieved that there was the most northerly of the mooring buoys still free when we got there. Particularly protected from SW winds and also the nearest to Ireland! It had the usual swell going on but situated just behind hangman’s island again, and just in front of Cromwell’s tower, it was a pretty perfect and peaceful spot. We went ashore to the Fraggle Rock bar for a farewell visit which was quite sad in a way. We’ve loved Scilly and will have very fond memories of the places we’ve been, regardless of some of the incidents and the not so great weather sometimes! Once back on board we stowed the dinghy, had a meal and went to bed. Ready for the off tomorrow 😬.

What I learned today ….. that I will be very glad to have a nights sleep attached to dry land, ie Still!

Sue x
