Today was the sort of day you could just do without…… weather wise, when you’ve got a load of jobs to do. We’re gearing up for leaving Scilly. We need to do shopping, laundry, water filling, cleaning. Etc. The wind got up and the swell increasing. We managed to do the first trip without to much hassle. I’d thought out a new technique for filling the water containers from the quay…. useful to anyone who may ever sail here, and therefore need water. Julian took the hose to the quay and dropped it down the harbour wall to me. I then filled the containers and it was only yards to transfer them onto the dinghy. Hurrah 😀. The laundry was great. So convenient on Port Cressa beach. Sibleys is a family firm on these islands and also has the fuel business on the harbour. Very helpful all round. It cost me £15 for a service wash, and it was all done washed, dried and folded by 1400. All in all we did 3 to and fro trips today, quite exhausting, especially shopping in the coop! Sadly we found out there there were no free Scilly carts ( golf buggies) for tomorrow ☹️. But that he would let us know if there was a cancellation. The sea state got worse as the day wore on, making it difficult even getting on and off the dinghy. At one time, we saw the lifeboat bring a forlorn looking motor cruiser in … who knows what had happened, but it looked like everyone was safe. One of my other jobs today was defrosting the little freezer compartment which was completely frozen up☹️ note to self …. must do this more regularly. I thought it was done a couple of weeks ago but apparently it was when we were in Woolverstone… east coast!
What I learned today……. that an oyster knife is a good tool for encouraging ice to break off whilst in a Defrosting process .
