So having been told that the fishing boat was going out at 0500, we had attached ourselves to our other neighbour who was going at 0600. Of course when we got up at 0530, “ Girl Pamela “ was well and truly still present! Released ourselves from Mr “ going at 6” and reattached the lines to “ Pamela “ . Once he had gone, we then unattached ourselves from Pamela and sorted our lines out so that we could moor properly to the pontoon. Hurrah 😀! I then went back to bed! It’s going to be a hot day here. We decided to do our shopping early so as to be able to avoid the hottest part of the day. We knew the Lidl here was along towards Penzance and actually had been before in 2019. Amazing what the weather can do to our memories. I remember a bleak winswept rainy place. Today quite the opposite… Newlyn is lovely! Not touristy. Quaint and yet real. The walk along the front to Lidl was delightful. A breeze blew off the sea which was glittering in the sunshine. Not a cloud in the sky. It was low water and people and dogs were enjoying the sandy beach, rock pools and swimming. We decided our treat this pm would be a swim followed by a beer at the Tolcarne inn which we had spotted on our way to Lidl. Once the shopping was done, I left J to put it away whilst I went in search of some fish for supper. Since Newlyn has a huge fish market on the quay, A fish monger shouldn’t be hard to find. In fact it was just across the car park from the RNLI visitors centre to the Penlee life boat. Such an array of fish ! I bought something filleted for supper and also 3 oysters for J , since he’d missed out on the Pyefleet creek ones. I had to buy a special knife too…to open them with. 😳. The next couple of hours was spent doing laundry. There wasn’t any washing machine so I had buckets and hose on the pontoon, and although time consuming was effective! Once that was done and all hanging up we went to the beach and had a swim in the sea. It was warm! Laid in the sun a while before wending our way back via the Tolcarne inn. 🍻 J watched a YouTube video on how to open his oysters. On our return we bought a lemon and tobasco sauce 😬. All went well with the preparation, and our fish supper was yummy 😋 .
What I learned today…. it seems “ there’s always a lone sock left in the washing machine “ applied to buckets too. A good idea NOT to empty the washing water into the harbour, before checking there’s nothing left in the bucket….. 😮
