Today was a rest day. We had a late brunch…. bacon and egg and all the trimmings courtesy of Julian. I went in search of a Sunday paper and had to go further than I thought. Around the harbour seems a little disheveled. Eventually I asked a lady who was busy pressure washing tables outside weatherspoons, where I might find a Sunday paper. She directed me to a little shop who thankfully had one Sunday times left. Brunch done we set of on a walk to Oulton Broad….. a village which is the “gateway “to the Norfolk broads. the walk was along a busy road and then through a housing estate until we eventually got to the pretty area called Oulton Broad. We had a drink at a bar/ cafe in a lovely park area on the side of the broad ( lake) . It was nice to see lots of people and families enjoying themselves in the sunshine. We then walked around the lakeside marvelling at the person on the hydrofoil windsurfer…. something I’d not seen before. We walked on round enjoying watching the typical broads type boats, but also saddened at all the many derelict boats just seemingly rotting away in their moorings. This appears to be a country wide problem and a huge environmental issue. We then made our way to Oulton south railway station and paid £1.70 each to get a train back to Lowestoft. On our return to the marina, we booked a table at the yacht club for dinner which sounds grand but was very informal and delicious food! An early night followed as we had to catch the tide at 0430 tomorrow.
What I learned today……you can buy a shower cap here For only 25p! 😳
