Wednesday 8 June. Whitby.

Julian got up and went to buy croissants. We chatted over breakfast before our friends had to go. It had been lovely to see them and thank you Kate for all the goodies! We shall enjoy! Otherwise it was a day of jobs . Julian did a co op shop with the trolley, restocking all our staples. In between we said bye to our Canadian neighbors who had rafted their lovely Hallberg “Voila” on our outside . They were off to Lowestoft. Hope they got a good trip!

Fortunately everything is within easy reach here, although it still seems to take forever walking to and fro up and down the long pontoon. I had two loads of washing, one clothes and one bedding. The washer was very posh and even had a light inside ! The cycle on eco only took 22 mins which I think is a record! The drier on the other hand took 65 minutes and the clothes were still damp☹️. The machines take coins so you have to keep feeding it more until you just run out of money and I must have done 10 trips up and down the pontoon, from laundry to boat and back again, either because I needed more money or because it was too long to wait. Things weren’t completely dry even after feeding it extra pounds, so I ended up pegging things out on the guard rail and draped over the boom anyway . Bit frustrating, but makes you realise once again the convenience of modern living and what our grandmothers spent a lot of time doing! We then went for a wander around before a relaxing evening watching catch up tv and Silent witness. We now appear to have sooooo many GB of data unused which makes no sense at all. 🤔. We also welcomed another boat outside us, a beautiful Westerly Storm 33 ( we used to have one called Storm Force) . We had met her in a Hartlepool. It’s a feature of this trip that you follow each other around. A strangely comforting “ in it together “ kind of emotion. A common bond of friendship and support.

What I learned today…… when tumble drying, one should always close the zip/ buttons/ poppers on the duvet covers so they don’t collect all the other washing and turn it into damp screwed up ball in the bottom corner .

  1. Lovely to meet Angelique. Great help with rafting up. Nice comparing stories of Westerly Storms. Do give Martin a text or email if you want to use one of our mooring bouys.
