I was really looking forward to a lie in, but unfortunately as we were on the outside of our neighbour…. coincidentally another Najad 373…..we had to get up to let them out and reposition ourselves on the pontoon. A lot of rope manoeuvres later, we were tied up again and I went back to bed.
They were off to Lowestoft and needed to get out through the swing bridge on the 8oclock opening.
In the afternoon some good friends came to see us. They live in Yorkshire about an hour and a half away. Used to sail but have now taken up narrow boating which sounds equally challenging at times! we had a nice afternoon chatting in the cockpit. The sun came out and it was hot! Time passed quickly and we made our way through the streets of historic Whitby to the Magpie cafe….. a famous restaurant, noted for its excellent fish and chips. We couldn’t book but only had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. We sat upstairs looking out over Whitby harbour where captain Cook grew up. The restaurant itself was built in the 1700’s. It was obviously really popular with a buzzy atmosphere. I had fish, chips and mushy peas! Delicious and followed by rice pudding and jam …very indulgent 😋.
What I learned today….. that The captain cook museum is in the house that belonged to Captain John Walker, to whom the Young James Cook was apprenticed in 1746.
