Waking up at 6 am to hear pouring rain and wind, I was very thankful to not be going anywhere! We spent the morning doing stuff on board as the weather wasn’t very pleasant. Julian poured over charts, almanacs and tide tables whilst I wrote postcards and letters to family. I also spent a while watching a man with a yellow bucket collecting seaweed. I’d noticed him last night doing the same and he appears to do it twice daily. I am intrigued to know what for? Any ideas ? By now the clouds and rain had given way to almost no wind, warmth!!! And a clearing blue sky! After a bacon muffin for lunch, we set off out. We needed some shopping so we did that first. The tide was in enough for us to have to use the ladder to reach the key. Very sensibly, there was a rope at the top which could be used to hoist things like rubbish or shopping up and down…. it came in very handy as climbing up a vertical ladder requires all hands to be used. Once the shopping was stowed, we went for a lovely walk in the sunshine with stunning views along the road out towards the northwest which is part of the North Coast 500. We didn’t walk quite far enough to see the beautiful beaches at Olshoremore. I picked some lucky heather for Angelique as I put it on her bow every year. On the way back we stopped for a welcome beer at the hotel… busier today…. maybe because it’s sunny or Friday; or both. We had thought we might move the boat into the now vacated main pontoon, but when we got back another yacht had taken up the space. Never mind. Watched tv in the evening and had fish and chips from the Spar. 😋
What I learned today……it’s amazing what comes up if you google “ why do people collect seaweed “
