Sunday 1 May Arisaig to Kyle of Lochalsh 30 nm

The wind had gone completely by the time we rose at 6 am . Arisaig harbour once more restored to peace and calm. We made our way out at about 0730 high tide, into the sound of Sleat. The wind …what there was was as usual from the N. we went a few miles in the wrong direction and then put the engine on. A beautiful place to be so we just enjoyed the views and the weather overcast but with promise ahead. We’d decided to check out a new anchorage for lunch whilst waiting for the tide at 3 pm that would take us through Kyle Rhea. Sandaig bay was indeed beautiful and an easy access anchorage. It’s the place where Gavin Maxwell lived and wrote “ Ring of bright water”. You can imagine it would be a wonderful place for humans and otters to live. Broad sandy beaches amongst an archipelago of little rocky islands. I hope otters still live there. Once 3 pm arrived we upped the anchor and set off. Kyle Rhea is one of those narrow stretches of water where the tide runs strongly so you have to go at the right time. Just north of our lunch stop, our main plotter ( sat nav) lost all chart detail, and now looks like the drawing of a 3 year old. Blue/ green with a few boats on it. That’s all. 😱

Fortunately we are old fashioned so we have paper charts and another plotter and An iPad with charts on …. so as J says it’s not the end of the world ☹️. We’ve picked up the same mooring that we sat on two years ago. Nice big orange buoy. Still there. J has been trying to sort the plotter out but to no avail, so that’s just something we’ll have to sort somehow, maybe, tomorrow.

What I learned today…… for the second time this week… to appreciate all that’s working today.
