Thursday 28 April Oban to Tobermory 25 nm

A reasonably early start as we had to get to the station in Oban for the 0857 train for Alice. We were all very sad to see her off as it’s been such good fun being together. Her journey to Troon passes through some beautiful countryside so hopefully that’ll be part of a memorable holiday. We returned to the boat and got ready to set off in the sunshine. Dodging a few ferries on the way out we crossed the familiar stretch of water to Lismore lighthouse under motor. Once into the sound of Mull, a gentle breeze filled in from behind us so for a while we sailed gently in more or less the right direction. I went down to the galley to make tea as the boat was flattish, and lo and behold…. the gas won’t work! I know one should count ones blessings but it is so frustrating when things don’t work…. when they just always have! being a long narrow stretch of water , the wind often changes in the sound of a Mull, .. both in direction and strength. Eventually we were tacking up towards Tobermory in a 15 knot wind . Good exercise on the winches. Goodness I’ll be fit by the end of this ! We had had a message earlier in the day that our friends Terry and Angela were also on their way to Tobermory. Angelique belonged to Terry and Angela before us, so it was lovely to catch up over a glass or two! Angelique now has a big sister boat … Angelina, and very beautiful she is.

What I learned today … to appreciate everything that works today because it may not tomorrow.
