After a beautifully peaceful night we got up at 0630 to catch the tides up through the narrows at the top of the sound of Jura. The sunshine warmed the otherwise freezing morning air. There may be a reason most people don’t start sailing this early in Scotland! We motored Across the whirlpools and tidal currents of Dorus mor without a breath of wind. We had a full main up and added the headsail as the wind began to build. The wind was coming from the north which of course meant tacking up the sound and through the narrow stretch of water between Belnahua lighthouse and another one. Exciting sailing with rough water due to tides and wind and a full rig up. Angelique coped admirably and we managed to arrive at Puilladobhrain having avoided the numerous small pot buoys that appear randomly just where you least want them. We had arranged to meet our Flying freinds Nigel and Brenda at the anchorage in their Boat “Arwen”. We got there just after them and popped across in the dinghy to be greeted with coffee and homemade scones and Jam, still warm from the oven! 😊 delicious and very welcome as our journey had been too healed over to get any refreshments. After a catch us we left them to head back to Dunstaffnage and we walked across the little peninsula to the Tig na bruich pub at the bridge across the Atlantic. J and I had roast beef and Yorkshire pud whilst Al had fish and chips 😋. What a treat! The walk back over the hill was beautiful and encapsulated springtime. Lots of wild primroses and violets in the peaty ground not as yet covered in the usual bracken. Wild rabbits bobbed around lazily nibbling. A very peaceful scene.
What I learned today……. Always remember to take the plug out of the sink before leaving so that when healed over the overflow pipe doesn’t fill up the sink and slop everywhere ☹️
