Friday 30 July Portavadie to Millport via Tarbert and Kyles of Bute 40 nm

Feeling like we’re nearly home now. Today was a scenic tour of the Kyles of Bute after a breakfast stop in Tarbert. Tarbert is on the opposite shore of Loch Fyne to Portavadie and is opposite in lots of other ways too! We motored across the Loch under rather gloomy skies. I used to think Tarbert has a tortuous entrance but relatively it is very straight forward! We moored up to a long leg visitor pontoon with only one other boat on it and ventured into the town in search of breakfast. It’s a really quaint place and was busy even at breakfast time. We found a lovely cafe and ordered cooked breakfasts and hot drinks… a real treat! J and I reminisced about the time when we were here with Quango … the hunter 707 we used to race.

We said bye to Tarbert and made our way up and down the Kyles taking in passing through Calladh harbour, a beautiful but compact anchorage on the north side of Eileen Dubh . Seems to be full of little boats on moorings but would be very peaceful! Eventually We ended up picking up a mooring in Millport… just as we did all those weeks ago. Today the weather was not so pleasant and not conducive for bothering to get the dinghy out and go ashore. Can’t believe we’re nearing the end of our adventure. Sue x
