Stayed put today as we wanted to do a bit of exploration . It was a pretty miserable early morning and there was obviously a weather front going over from the west. Looked bleak. A bit disappointed as the rest of the uk is experiencing a heatwave and cloudless blue skies it seems. Anyway it did clear up … to some extent At least stopped raining and warm so we went ashore to buy the gaz canister at great expense! But then it did have a long way to get here. Lovely little shop/ cafe etc . Even have a laundry and shower for future reference. Whilst J was getting the gaz I had been chatting to a couple of sea kayakers … they do what we do but on kayaks. Camping and they carry all their water food and equipment in the little boats. Really interesting . We took the gaz back to the boat and by this time sea looked blue again so donned shorts instead of wet weather stuff and went back to do our exploring. Walking round the amazing white beach of Gott bay we could see kite surfers going so fast! Huge expanse of flat water. The other observations was so-much traffic! Many many camper vans and recreational vehicles. The Island is obviously doing a good staycation trade. We got back to Scarinish and found the hotel still under refurbishment but selling drinks so had a beer and some crisps overlooking the little old harbour. At that point the weather started to close in and we retreated to a covered area. There are sheep everywhere on this island. Just wandering about. I like sheep. but I appear to have no photos of them! Back on the boat we did some planning and J did one of his chicken surprise suppers😋.
What I learned today…. apparently the plankton are in the wrong place for the basking sharks according to the kayakers.
