Thursday 15 July Tiree to Loch Scresort , Isle of Rum 46 nm

A long day! Up at 0630 we needed to be away and at the entrance to Gunna sound by about 8 . Our plan had been to go through the sound and then back just to see it …. as we’d been told it was beautiful. We changed plan and decided to head out and carry on the north west side of Coll rather than making for Ariginour on the SE side. Maybe in hindsight we’d have been better sticking to that plan🤔. It was beautiful but you had to imagine it with a blue sky. Then it would look spectacular! Lumpy bumpy sea.. even at slack water. On tother side not much wind and mainsail banging around so J wanted it down. Not my favourite thing…… main going up or down in a bumpy lumpy big sea even if the wind isn’t strong. Did that 3 more times today! We had decided to head for Rum …. one of the small isles as decent anchorages in this area in this wind direction are limited. It took a long time as the wind was only 8-10 knots and we had to gybe downwind. Did quite a lot of motoring as the motion was really sloppy and horrible. Eventually got past Muck, then Eigg and turned into Loch Scresort, Antares charts at the ready for anchoring. Lo and behold more lovely visitors mooring buoys ! We last came here more than 20 years ago on a memorable sailing adventure with our BSAVA friends. Then there was not much here apart from the Castle. ( I will take a picture when it’s not in a cloud). There was low mist and black skies and then the sun came out making the white boats look stark and dramatic. The amazing thing about this part of the country is the variety of landscape and terrain. Rum is home to the red cuillins so very mountainous and a corbet or two I think .A few miles apart from Tiree and a world of difference. We watched as many more yachts came in, some had to anchor as the buoys ran out.

What I learned today….. maybe I am a bit braver than I was??? But J did comment that I did look petrified at one point. Sue x
