Saturday 26 June Craighouse to Gallanach bay , Crinan 27 nm

Eventually a peaceful night! The wind died around dusk and we decided to not stay up! Wanting to leave the anchor alarm on but for some reason the LED anchor light which we plug into the same 12 v socket as the plotter, would not work on an alternative socket! Annoying! No matter. All was quiet in the morning and there were signs of life stirring on the other boats. Everyone had the same problem with getting their anchor up covered in seaweed. It took us about half an hour to get ours in! Cleaning it and cutting off the weed as you draw up each meter. The sun was out albeit together with a cloudy sky. We set off tacking up a flat sea in 7-10 kt of breeze. Very pleasant and you couldn’t believe it was the same world as 24 hours ago. The wind died around lunchtime and we had a lovely hour motoring up the east coast of Jura, looking at all the little bays …. potential anchorages. Tarbert bay and Lussa bay looked especially inviting. As we approached the northern end of Jura you get into the weird turbulence of the tidal streams that affect this area. Flat Whirlpools and white water are milling together to form the strangest feeling under the boat. You think you’re doing 4 or 5 knots but actually you’re doing 0.5 kt. Obviously in calm weather it’s interesting but can be alarming in windier conditions. It’s near the entrance to the notorious gulf of Coryvreckan, which is still an ambition of mine to sail through . Maybe later ……how about it T & S?? By now the sun was hot and the wind behind us….. for once it felt warm! We decided to anchor in a bay opposite Crinan basin called Gallanach bay. Beautiful, secluded and wild. No one here except a flock of greylag geese and some seals. The sun is setting over the bow of Angelique and we have gin and tonics and beer in hand.

What I learned today…….. what a difference a day makes 👍
