Happy birthday Alice!!!

It’s been a long day . Longer for Julian who stayed up to keep anchoR watch right through the night. I can’t post his pictures of the dawn as we have no signal but it was beautiful in a wild sort of way! I got some hours sleep and got up about 0630. The visibility is clear and the sun shining. Buts it’s oh so cold and the wind hasn’t let up st all . Still we haven’t moved which is the main thing. J went for s well earned rest and I took the next 4 hours watch. Checking with each time Angelique swings on her anchor that the transit with something on the shore hasn’t changed. Mine is the little white chapel on the shore in line with the main halyard on the boat. It becomes an all consuming task. The wind was consistently 25 knots plus but not quite as high as yesterday. Julian managed to set the anchor alarm on the new plotter so it will alert us if the boat moved by more than 70 m. Several other boats have are and anchored……. probably most hoping as we did for a visitor mooring! The bay is now quite full and you can’t helping feeling that the local economy would benefit hugely from the maintenance of moorings….. not least the distillery! Always a favourite with boaty people!

What I learned today ……..that what we need is a 30 m of polypropylene line attached to a hook ( which goes to the chain). This is then taken back to a aft winch and so takes up the stress on the anchor chain…. so the stretch absorbs the shock on the chain so ( allegedly) reducing snatch load and hopefully reducing likelihood of drag of the anchor????? Watch this space!

Sue x……… it is now 1850 and finally the wind is dropping………
