Sunday 20 June Sanda to Ardminish on Gigha 28 nm

What a peaceful night. Waking to quietness apart from sound of seabirds. We had been expecting the anchorage to be “ subject to swell” but we certainly didn’t notice any. we were up st 0630 to catch the tide which started in the right direction st about 0730. We put the main up but there wasn’t much wind and what there was , was from behind us so we motored out into the hazy morning along with all of the other boats bar one going in the same direction. Because of the lack of wind the water was flat calm but there was still a very slight swell. We headed across to the shore of the Mull to be in the strongest tidal stream. At one point we had an extra 4 knots ( boat speed 9 knots) of tide helping us along so our total distance was actually more than the log would have recognised. Happy Father’s Day messages were received 🤗! . I cooked bacon and egg croissants for breakfast… whilst going round a fairly swirly roly bit at the corner! Now I definitely wouldn’t have been able to do that years ago. We did have a bit of wind as we approached gigha so sailed the last bit. We arrived about 2 ish and picked up the trot buoy on the mooring. Then fiddled around with the yellow mooring tool and lines and strops till we were secure. Quite an entertainment watching other boats come in during the afternoon and seeing the various ways they sorted out the less than easy moorings. Some just gave up and went and anchored …… one even right in the path of the ferry! 😳

We went ashore for a little leg stretch and check whether the shop had camping gaz… they didn’t. The white sand makes for aquamarine clear water which looks cold but inviting. May just get the paddle board out tomorrow if not too windy!

What I learned today…….. just what hedgerows should look like. Full of colour …. insects and birds

Pink campion, foxgloves, wild honeysuckle, cow parsley etc etc
