Tuesday 15 June Troon to Largs 21 no

Woke to blue sky would you believe ! But it quickly clouded over. However we set off about 10 ish and enjoyed a fairly gentle sail toward Largs. Julian made me do a practice reefing which although I didn’t want to was actually good for me and I feel a bit more confident now. I came up with a mnemonic to remember it……..see later . The wind was on the quarter…. so coming from behind so a bit of a roly sea especially as we turned the corner towards Largs. We were thinking of anchoring at Millport for lunch but the threat of weather to come kept us going. Bit drizzly and very gloomy skies above, meant it wouldn’t have been particularly pleasant anyway. Pressed on to Largs where we arrived about 1430. A slightly less than perfect arrival. Always difficult when you’re going into a strange berth, pontoons different lengths and heights. I missed the opportunity to jump off so we drifted into a neighbouring boat but only gently. No harm done except our pride !

We had a walk into Largs which was lovely along the shore and found various landmarks featured in my photos. We’ve just had a supper of crab linguine and now watching football .

What I learned today: reefing:

Meaning: K M H P R M K. Think of a mnemonic!!

Kicker, mainsheet, halyard, Pringle ( actually cringle ), reefing line, main sheet, kicker. In that order…..
