Tuesday 8 June . Lamlash to Otter Ferry 40 nm

Woke early to something clattering against the boat. In the haze of waking thinking if I just put my head far enough under here… I won’t be able to hear it , and maybe it’ll go away. J was already up and sorting it … the dinghy was making the ladder clatter. Since he was up, he thought he may as well go ashore and try and pay our £10 dues. Once back We got the dinghy on board and the motor back up using the new bits of carpet we brought with us. With our visitors still asleep we set off aiming for Lochranza for lunch on our way to our destination up Loch Fyne. The wind was from the south so from behind all the way. We just sailed with the headsail as the wind was strong enough and the water flat for us to average over 5 knots. Once A And W got up Julian made them breakfast en route. Arrived at Lochranza where we picked up a mooring and had the inevitable ham and cheese baps. Plus cuppa soup of course. Weather closing in a bit so wet weather gear on and made our way towards Otter Ferry…..

We briefly glimpsed some common dolphins and 3 puffins on the way which made Alices day! This area is less wild and dramatic than the western isles or outer Hebrides but it is beautiful and pretty with gorgeous colours… loads of rhododendron s out at the moment . We passed the big green starboard marker marking the end of the Otter spit, covered in sea birds and apparently the shores are home to millions of starfish. Picking up a mooring in front of the pub The Oystercatcher where we had booked to eat… Great food and ambience and lovely to be inside a proper pub again!
