Wednesday 26 August Campbeltown to Lochranza( Arran) 26 nm

What a difference a day makes! Peaceful night and woke to water as flat as a pancake . Got up and went to find the bakery. Needed to post some cards so found postbox too. On my way back I came across the “Wee picture house” , apparently a famous art nouveau architectural design. Next door was an old building which was the museum but originally??? There was a memorial garden with a bronze statue of Linda McCartney there. Despite the flowers, Sadly it all looked a bit neglected. Hopefully just because of COVID. I always thought she seemed like a nice person for a celebrity. Returned to the boat with pastries and runner beans ( spied a nice green grocer on my way). We left the pontoon quietly about 11 am. There was Zero wind so donkey was on. We crept up the lovely west coast of the kilbrannan sound. When you’re sailing it can be a bit frenetic so you Miss looking at things on the land … the coastal scenery is lovely. Small fishing hamlets; austere castles; and rows of white cottages which presumably have been there for centuries. Yet again I mention the colours. Lime green fields; purple heather and slate grey blue sea. Definitely the colours of our new bedroom when I get around to it!! We had lunch anchored in Carradale bay, Kintyre. After that we actually put the sails up and proceeded for a while albeit slowly, up the sound. Didn’t last long and we had to engage eyore again. You can’t believe it! This time yesterday it was blowing old boots probably 40 knots out here…… and now nothing!!! Ridiculous! We finally tucked into Lochranza harbour and picked up a lovely ( 10 *) strop with an orange trot. Amazingly, some friends of ours daughter plus family happen to be camping here! ( hope they haven’t been consumed by midges ☹️). So we spotted them through the binoculars and were waving to them on the beach . Took lots of lovely sunsetty pictures during g & t time. What a lovely restful day!!!!

What I have learned today……….I should have anchored pointing into the wind…. even when there was no wind…..
