Monday 10 August Stornoway

We said goodbye sadly to our friends about 0700 as they set off on their journey home. Hopefully easier than the outward one. The rest of the day was to be spent doing chores and replenishing groceries etc. Julian’s first job was to try and sort out the gas which as you know had stopped working. Off he went in search of somewhere to get gaz and maybe a new regulator. Came back shortly as he’d forgotten his mask 😷. Off he went again and returned about an hour later having eventually been successful at least with the gaz. One of the things you realise when living in a boat is that you can’t just hop in your car and go off looking for something! Consequently some tasks take a long time! Eventually , Julian ,who always manages to work out how to fix things, decided that the valve on the “suspect “ bottle of gaz did not look the same as the new one so concluded that it may just have been a faulty bottle rather than anything to do with the regulator and new solonoid. ??? So far, putting the new one on has worked! At the moment we’re keeping it switched off in the outside locker which is a bit of a pain…….imagine having to to go Outside to turn a tap on every time you want a cup of tea!will keep you informed!

Today’s weather is absolutely beautiful! Hot and sunny without a cloud (hardly) in the sky. In fact a perfect day for doing the laundry and getting Everything aired! Boats do get quite smelly , especially when a lot of people are living in a small damp place together . Sorry Sue and Tim …. that’s not directed at you!🤭

I spent a couple of hours happily feeding the washing machine with pound coins and reading my book whilst waiting. Did tumble dry most of it as too much to get dry on the rails. Meanwhile J had cleaned the rest of the boat , revitalised Angelique’s red stripe with his newly acquired “back to black”, and mended the knob on the door of the heads ( bathroom) cupboard which had been sticking for ages. then we walked to Tesco’s in the sunshine and topped up our stores before returning to the boat for a welcome drink in the cockpit, as the sun sunk in the sky, eventually disappearing behind Stornoway castle. Supper was the salmon that We meant to have two days ago….gave it the sniff test and it as it seemed fine had it with spuds and slightly yellow broccoli…. lovely 😊!

What I have learned today……….how to spell Stornoway

Sue x
