Wednesday 29 July Tobermory to Canna. 47 nm

We left our nice safe haven in Tobermory and headed out of the sound of Mull. The weather was grey but not raining ….I was wearing my new over-trousers just in case. it’s always a bit daunting as you poke your nose out into the open sea and the waters off ardnamurchan are notoriously lumpy. However for a change though the wind was on the nose and we had to tack to begin with, the second tack we put in took us all the way to our destination of Canna. Canna is one of the small isles south of Skye … along with Rhum, Eigg and Muck. The wind was a force 2-3 which on flattish water gave us a fantastic days sail. In addition the sun came out which was very welcome. I actually snoozed on deck in the warmth when I wasn’t on watch. The scenery is stunning and reminded us why we had come all this way! It is so wild, so majestic and so very beautiful. As we turned the corner of Rhum, the black cuillins of Skye came into view. I always think of Mum and Dad when I see them as they spent a lot of their young lives climbing them, and later on we had family holidays on Skye and other highland places. Thank-you Dad!

The sky was practically clear but the time we picked up a mooring buoy with a jolly good thick rope strop on it ( the best type!) Three other boats were also moored. Certainly no crowds here! The pictures will hopefully convey the peace and tranquility of a truly wonderful place. We sat with a glass of wine in the “dry” cockpit, just breathing it all in. Watching seals swimming and small groups of Eider ducks and the odd black guillemot. Sheep on the shore the only other sound. No wind!!!! Yay! Peaceful night until………………
