Monday 27 July Loch Aline to Tobermory 15 nm

The night was surprisingly calm and peaceful. Woke to the sound of rain and looking out of our window, a grey dreary landscape. At least the lack of wind meant leaving our mooring was easy. In fact it has rained for most of today so have only a few pictures due to not wanting to get the phone out! We left Loch Aline and motored as there was no wind. Just after the elbow of the sound of mull, the wind picked up a lot so we let out the headsail and tacked the rest of the way. It wasn’t far to go to our Tobermory so it was nice to do. A couple of other boats had left Loch Aline at more or less the same time so we were of course in the usual unofficial race to our destination. One often wonders if they are thinking the same. We last visited Tobermory in our last boat…….. our beloved “Storm Force “ probably 4 years ago. On approaching the marina, it all looked a bit different with a new pontoon on which there was one fishing boat. We duly put out our fenders and lines on BOTH port and starboard, spied the perfect berth and snuck in with the perfect landing 😬!!!!! J duly radioed the marina office to register arrival, to be told that another boat had booked that berth in advance so we had to wait to see what vessels were coming and going before we could assume that we could stay there. Less than an hour later the boat that was supposed to be on the pontoon where we were, came in about an hour later . I’m ashamed to say we kept our heads down and it worked!!! “Ocean lord “ attached themselves to the hammerhead whilst awaiting instructions….. that was midday and it’s now 9 pm and they’re still there 😳. Leaving us in a perfect position to ride out the north westerly gale!

The other exciting task of the day was going to the coop. As the capital of Mull, Tobermory is s very busy holiday destination but only has one little grocery store… a coop on the front. I had to wait 45 minutes in a queue in the pouring rain to get in and buy my few items with my mask on ( thanks Angie!)

That was about it for today, we also had the eberspacher heater ( central heating system on the boat which is driven by a small Diesel engine and is incredibly effective) There was a need to try and deal with the dampness. I had started to smell like a mushroom ☹️… pictures are a bit random today!

What I have learned today……..to appreciate the lovely views up the sound of Mull, that we can generate warmth and to appreciate food when we have to queue up to get it………….
